The Long & Short of it... |
Now Spencer has a little brother who manages to keep everyone on their toes... especially Mom.
Given that Owen's only physical challenge is his complete lack of fear and the fact that he can reach things easily with those damn "long arms" he was quickly dubbed "the Two armed Octopus"
Jenn was not used to having a child who could reach... everything. So here is where Jenn will be able to blog and write about the unique experiences she has raising both boys.
There will surely be insights valuable to all parents given that she is an amazing mother on all accounts. |

Jennifer Hawk Powell : Spencer's Mom |
Here we see Spencer's mom Jennifer in 2009 when Spencer first received his new "Robot Legs" after the second of his amputations. She was rather excited that Spencer was now tall enough to reach the sink and could help with dishes.
Jennifer is an amazing advocate for children with special needs and has worked extensively with Shane's Inspiration to help develop universally accessible playgrounds. She was instrumental in helping to raise the funds to build the Everychild Foundation Universally Accessible Playground at Orthopaedic Hospital, in downtown Los Angeles.
Her commitment to both her sons and the children of people she may never actually meet is staggering. She is a heroic person to be around.
She is married to Doug Powell, Spencer's step father, and lives in Fort Collins,Colorado. In 2010, Jenn & Doug had their son Owen, who does not have any physical challenges other than trying to keep him out of things. Spencer loves his baby brother and can often be found wrestling with him. |

Baby Owen is born |
On January 26, 2010 Jennifer gave birth to Spencer's baby brother Owen. Spencer's brother does not have TAR syndrome and is heathly and happy.
He has a strong will and what sometimes looks like a complete lack of fear. His brother was so excited to have him home. In preparation for his arrival, Spencer requested a doll be purchased so he could practice holding a baby. He was very concerned that he not drop his brother and wanted to make sure he could do it. With the help of a "Boppy" pillow, Spencer was able to hold his brother from the day he came home.
Spencer's dad, Coburn was honored when Doug and Jenn asked him to be Owen's godfather, an honor he quickly accepted.
